Viagra can Double the Risk of Hearing Loss

Research has shown that Viagra users put themselves at risk of hearing loss long term. Men who take Viagra or other drugs such as Cialis and Levitra (type of PDE-5i), two times more likely to hearing loss than men who do not eat them.
Results of research studied 11 525 men aged over 40 years of drug use sex aid. These facts have been published on May 18, 2010 in the journal Archives of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck-Surgery.
Study researcher Gerald McGwin, a professor of epidemiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, said that the current government’s warning against the risk of hearing loss associated with the use of Viagra and similar drugs. Similarly as reported by the NY Daily News, Monday (24/05/2010).
“Although there are limitations in this study, it is wise for patients using this drug are warned about the signs and symptoms of hearing loss. They should also be urged to seek medical help immediately to prevent permanent damage potential,” said McGwin.
These findings follow FDA regulations about changes to drug labels in order to more clearly show the risk of hearing loss.
Further research is needed to determine cause-effect relationship is directly between the use of drugs like Viagra and hearing loss. Therefore, among the weaknesses is the risk that studies based on older men, who already has a risk of hearing loss.
Please note, PDE-5i-drug first developed to treat hypertension, later widely used to treat erectile dysfunction. Anyone who has a hearing problem when taking Viagra, should stop use and take immediate remedial action, such as the FDA advised.
